God instructed man to eat from all trees in the Garden of Eden except “the tree of the knowledge of good and evil” (Gen 2: 16-17). This single tree became a subject of temptation! The tempter twisted God’s clear instructions and caused woman to doubt God’s word. The woman ate the forbidden fruit, and gave to her husband who also ate (v6).
The tempter still uses similar patterns of deception today to lure people to destroy God’s word! Is there a “forbidden fruit” you are being enticed to “eat” presently? No matter how attractive it might seem, don’t eat it! Learn from Joseph and get away immediately from that enticing environment (Gen 39: 11-12) Resist the devil and he will flee from you (James 4:7).
Like many of us today, the man and the woman tried to shift the blame for their disbodience to someone else(vs 12-13).
But the damage had already been done. They saw themselves as naked, were afraid and tried to hide from God (vs 7-12). Watch out! Anything that drives you away from the presence of God or the gathering for of his children may be a sign that you have “eaten a forbidden fruit.” Repent immediately as David did (Psalm 51:1-4).
Prayer: Oh Lord, help me not to “eat any forbidden fruit” in Jesus Name.
